The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a nationwide initiative that encourages parents and caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children by challenging them to read 1,000 books before entering kindergarten.
By reading just one book a night, participants can reach the 1,000-book goal in three years and build essential literacy skills that prepare them for reading and entering kindergarten.
Any child from birth until they enter kindergarten can participate in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program.
To sign up, register with a Youth Services Librarian to receive a log to keep track of your books. Bring the log back at each milestone and receive a progress sticker. Complete 1000 books and receive a Certificate and an invitation to a Congratulations Celebration!
