New Jersey Maker Day

New Jersey Makers Day is a statewide initiative created to highlight STEM and maker culture. Check out bins from our STEAM Cart and STEAM Jr. Creation Station (ages 4 and up). Teens and Adults can take spices and seeds from our Spice and Seed Libraries! No registration required.

Bouncing Babies Storytime

Building Blocks Storytime
Fridays 10-10:30am
Ages 18-35 months

Join Melissa and Renee for storytime! We will read stories, sing songs and learn American Sign Language (ASL)!  Register for Building Blocks Storytime here

Starting on April 17th, storytime will be held on outside on the grounds of the Scottish Rite Auditorium. If it is raining or wet outside, storytime will be held at the library. An announcement will be made on social media and the website around 9:00am the day of storytime if it held indoors.

Family Tea Party

Celebrate spring with a tea party for children! Families who sign up for this special event will be able to make their own tea hats, take part in tea-themed games and dine on sweet treats, tea and other beverages. This is an event where children ages 5 and over can experience a tea party with their favorite grown ups. This event has limited spots so registration is required.

This event is for ages 5 and up; no younger siblings due to space. All children attending must come with a registered adult. Register for Family Tea Party here.

Book Tasting

Like to read but sometimes stumped on what book to pick? HATE to read because you struggle to find books you might actually enjoy? Come to the library for a fun, interesting book preview party. You can sample different genres and books by checking out the titles, reading the blurbs and flipping through the first few pages. You can find your next favorite story without commitment, stress or parents! It’s the perfect way to discover different authors, exciting genres and new releases! Registration for Book Tasting encouraged but not required.

Crochet Basics

Join us to watch an Oscar Nominated Movie! Get ready for the Academy Awards with this film screening. Popcorn and light refreshments will be provided. You are also welcome to bring your own meals or snacks. We will be watching Hamnet (rated PG13, runtime 2 hours, 5 minutes).

LGBTQ+ Romance Book Club

Pride Loves to Read is a discussion group for LGBTQ+ romance novels for adults. Let’s talk about the book or audiobook you’re currently reading or listening to, what you recommend, and what you’re looking forward to. If you love LGBTQ+ romance novels or you’re curious about them, join us? All adults are welcome! This is not a formal book club, it’s a safe space for everyone to have fun meeting and sharing with like-minded fans.

Street Cats & Where to Find Them (book event)
Wednesday March 18  6:30-7:45 pm

Join us for a book event with Jeff Bogle, author of Street Cats & Where to Find Them.  Jeff will talk about the making of his book, Street Cats & Where to Find Them, the world’s first travel guide book for cat lovers, read selections from it, discuss the first-ever street cat cruise he is hosting in Europe later this year, and take your questions, all while hundreds of his photos of cats around the world play behind him.

Earth Day Workshop
Wednesday April 22  6-7:30pm

Celebrate Earth Day at the library and learn how to create sustainably! Join us for three Earth Day related crafts and activities to get you thinking green. We will be creating DIY tote bags with recycled fabric, recycled newspaper woven baskets, and recycled plastic bottle bird feeders! Registration is required for the Earth Day Craft Night, this program is for adults and teens.

Gardening Swap

Wednesday May 13 6:30 – 7:30pm

Do you have any leftover pots or seeds that you no longer need for your garden? Are you looking to get some new supplies to inspire your next gardening project? Join us for our Gardening Swap at the library!

Here’s how to participate: Bring any clean, gently used gardening supplies such as pots, small tools, seeds, and more! Stop by Youth Services to drop off your gardening supplies between May 1st and May 8th to receive an early bird ticket for early access to the swap at 6pm on May 13th. From 6:30 – 7:30pm anyone is welcome to show the swap and take home one bag of new to you gardening supplies. Please bring your own bag.

We will also be facilitating plant swapping during the gardening swap; however, we will not be accepting early drop-offs of plants. If you would like to swap plants along with gardening supplies, please bring healthy, pest-free plants or cuttings. Please clearly label your plants with their names and basic instructions.
